You reach for your trusty ceramic scissors, and… wait, are those yellow stains? Don‘t panic — it happens to the best of us. Here’s why and exactly how to get them sparkling again.
Why do ceramic blades turn yellow? It‘s usually from food acids, oils, or mineral deposits that cling to the surface over time. The good news? Ceramic is non-porous, so stains are almost always surface-level — not permanent.
Try these methods (from gentlest to strongest):
🥄 Baking soda paste — Mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, apply to the stained area, let sit for a few minutes, then gently wipe off. This works for most everyday yellowing.
🍋 Acidic solutions — Light stains respond well to white vinegar, lemon juice, or even diluted disinfectant. Just soak a soft cloth and wipe — never use strong acids that could corrode the blade.
🧴 Kitchen bleach — For stubborn stains, soak the blade in diluted kitchen bleach. Rinse thoroughly afterward.
A few firm NO‘s: ❌ No metal scrubbers (they‘ll scratch and darken the blade) ❌ No dishwasher (impacts can chip the edge) ❌ No twisting or prying motions
Pro tip: After cleaning, air-dry completely and store in a dry place. A quick rinse after each use prevents buildup in the first place.
And if you’re using a MIDDIA ceramic blade? Same rules apply — gentle care keeps it looking brand new. MIDDIA or not, these tips work across the board.
