If you've ever owned a pair of metal scissors, you know the drill — a few drops of oil on the pivot now and then, or they start feeling stiff and squeaky. So when you pick up a pair of ceramic scissors, the natural question is: do these need oil too?
The short answer? No. Not at all.
Here's why. Ceramic blades are made from zirconium oxide, a high-quality industrial ceramic that is chemically inert, non-porous, and non-stick. Unlike steel, which rusts and corrodes when exposed to moisture, ceramic simply doesn't. It's impervious to acids, salt, and humidity. That means no rust, no oxidation, and — most importantly — no need for oil or lubricant to keep them functioning.
Traditional metal scissors require oil precisely because they do rust. The oil acts as a protective barrier against moisture and corrosion. But ceramic scissors eliminate that problem entirely. Many brands explicitly market their ceramic scissors as "maintenance-free" — no oil, no lubrication, no fuss.
So what should you do? Keep them clean. A quick rinse with warm water and mild soap after use, wiped dry with a soft cloth, is really all it takes. For sticky residue, a little alcohol works wonders. Just don't drop them — ceramic is hard but brittle, and a fall onto a hard surface can chip the blade.
No oil. No rust. No maintenance headaches. That's the beauty of ceramic.
And yes, even MIDDIA ceramic scissors follow the same rule — zero oil required.
